Background and philosophy
We place particular emphasis on courtesy ,grace and manners and opportunity is provided for each child to strengthen its positive attitude and to enjoy learning .Our aim is to encourage every child to develop their potential, to feel confident and independent.Kindness and respect for others is paramount.
Learning methodology
As a well rooted seeding finds its own path towards sunlight, Dr.Maria Montessori (1870-1952) believed that children have an “inner self” and teach themselves at their own peace and by their own experiences. At MILE STONE ,children are encouraged to work individually , concentrating on what interests them , using the specially structured yet flexible modules .These absorbing materials provide a graded set of exercises for the children to work with.
Practical Life Exercises
hese exercises provide an opportunity for children to develop confidence, independence and concentration as well as increasing their fine and gross motor skills .children work on real tasks which involve the hand and the mind preparing the intellectual and fine motor skills used in writing and all further creative work.
Language Exercises
Montessori Language materials (sandpaper letters, insets, sand tray, pink and blue boxes etc) group work ,letter land and an excellent supply of books , tapes and songs provide a strong phonetic approach to writing and reading.
Sensorial Exercises
Sensorial materials were specially designed to encourage the development of the senses . Each piece of material is used to stimulate and refine one of the senses by separating one concept at a time in preparation for mathematics.
Mathematics Exercises
The Montessori Mathematics materials provide a structured approach for the child to become familiar with the concrete object before the abstract ideas of numbers .Children gain a physical impression of size and quality before they begin to manipulate it in numbers.
Personal , Emotional & Social Development
Children are encouraged to work and concentrate independently from the start .They are encouraged to care and have respect for themselves , others and their environment and we encourage children towards self discipline through mutual respect.
Cultural Exercises
Children learn how everything in the world in related and the interdependence of all living things .They are assisted in exploring and understanding their environment within the group and globally by recognizing differences , similarities ,patterns and sharing and recording findings.
